CUSTOM.exe froze up while I was working on a game! Is there any way I can unfreeze CUSTOM or retrieve the files I modified?

It's doubtful that you could unfreeze CUSTOM without directly editing its memory space (i.e., forget it). However, the very nature of how it works dictates that your files are safe and sound, with the exception of the very last thing you were working on, which may be lost (depending on what it was, and how often CUSTOM saves in that particular editor).

CUSTOM also has an auto-recovery feature built in specifically to recover your files if it crashes or freezes. To use this feature, simply kill CUSTOM (via Task Manager on Windows (Ctrl-Alt-Delete once) or the kill command on Linux), and run it again. It will notice the corpse of the previous copy of CUSTOM, and ask what it should do with it. Simply choose RECOVER IT, and CUSTOM will make a new RPG file called <gamename>.bak. This is the saved copy of your game. <gamename>.rpg is the old version, so you need to delete or rename it to something else (renaming is strongly suggested), and rename <gamename>.bak to <gamename>.rpg, and you're done.

This procedure is almost fool-proof, in terms of preserving data inegrity (i.e. no corruption). However, it's always possible that there's a glitch, so you should test your RPG to make sure it still works.

As for whatever caused the freezing itself, see if you can reproduce the problem. If you can, please consider reporting the issue to the buglist so we can try and fix it.
