Bob: My eventual goal is to have a description of every major menu with screenshots. Then when a FAQ article says "...go to the general map data editor and change..." the reader will be able to click for a screenshot and description of that particular menu. The hardest work here is collecting and uploading all the neccisary screenshots. Writing the descriptions and crosslinking them will not be so hard (although it is a big task anyway)

TMC: yes! I had been hoping that we might start on this. Right now, the only documentation of Custom is the howto, and the whatsnew (how else are you to know how to insert special characters into a textbox?)

Mike: You can insert special characters into a textbox?!!??!!1?!!?!1!?!1? Ha ha, j/k But, yeah. Deal: I'll prepare and upload a buttload of screenshots from custom, and someone else can write articles to go with them. Or me, if A) No one else volunteers or B) Everyone else is too lazy.

Mike: Er, how are you taking the shots? F12 doesn't work, and WinXP won't let me un-fullscreen custom to do it manually...

Bob: I have been running CUSTOM in DosBox, and taking screenshots with The Gimp's screen capture feature. Then I crop them to 640x400, then I do a non-interpolated scale to 320x200 (the non-interpolated is important so the screen doesn't get blendy), then I reduce to 256 color or 16 color depending on the menu, and save it as menu-something-something.png ... That process could be speeded up a whole lot if I would bother to look up the DosBox configuration option that disables scaling 320x200 screens up to 640x400

Mike: When I get home, I can just windowize (yes, I made that word up) it, and crop out the title bar. However, if I must do it with dosbox, rest assured that (since I deal with sprites a lot) my copy of Photoshop defaults to linear scaling.

Mike: oops, nevermind.
